In a graden of flowers
Stella McCartney and Dries van Noten, following on the rosy heels of the Balenciaga show on Tuesday, are two designers who clearly belong in the camp that favors country-club garden prints.
Those at Ms. McCartney’s show Thursday morning came fast, furious and in three ways: as faint bouquets on layers of silk georgette, for minidresses; as a riotous wildflower motif on a silk voile jumpsuit; and as a woodblock-like paisley on crepe de Chine, in a short coat and a long dress that dangled from minuscule shoulder straps. They looked delicate, not dainty.
For far too long, making pretty things has been a pursuit that designers have treated derisively, sometimes claiming to do so with a sense of irony, favoring the jolie laide (or pretty-ugly) or masking a floral print beneath a black motorcycle jacket. But Ms. McCartney’s designs seem increasingly sincere, without cynicism toward clothes that may be either too girly or ones that customers actually want to wear.

The Establishment Alasdhair Willis -Stella McCartney
Alasdhair Willis sips a cup of chamomile tea at an achingly trendy spot in London. We have not been followed here by the paparazzi, which is a bit of a bonus, since Willis and his wife, the fashion designer Stella McCartney, tend to spike their adrenaline. Particularly now, as the couple are expecting their third child. “Is that known?” Willis asks in seemingly genuine surprise when I offer my congratulations. Yet we’ve not met up today because of Stella and the two, soon to be three, children — though they loom large in the conversation and are, he happily admits, the most important thing in his life — but because of the big success that Willis, 37, is enjoying on his own account. In only two and a half years, Established & Sons, the modern furniture and design company that Willis began with three art-school chums, the designers Sebastian Wrong and Mark Holmes, and Tamara Caspersz, is already one of the coolest on the planet. Not only have they changed the equation between furniture and art, but they’ve also put the glamour and the wit back into British design. Read more:

Stella McCartney: I am not using kangaroo leather!
29/08/2007 01:37
Latest News:
Designer STELLA McCARTNEY has hit back at misleading press reports that suggest she's using kangaroo leather in her new Adidas shoes. Longtime animal right activist MCCartney was horrified when British tabloid reports about her links to the sportswear chain were misconstrued as the story spread around the world.
Although Adidas has a history of using kangaroo leather in their products, McCartney insists she won't be using any leather in her shoes. McCartney's spokesman Stephane Jaspar says, "Stella McCartney is a lifelong vegetarian and committed advocate of animal rights and doesn't use any leather or fur in any of her collections. "All the accessories designed in collaboration with Adidas are made with alternative to leather: high performance fabrics, which don't use any animal by products including kangaroo leather."

EARTH TO STELLA!

STELLA McCartney has found herself embroiled in a campaign by animal rights over the use of kangaroo hides by the sporting giant behind her latest womenswear range
McCartney, a long-time vegetarian who has previously attacked designers who use fur, is just weeks away from unveiling her new sportswear range for Adidas at London Fashion Week.
But in an embarrassing twist, animal rights campaigners have begun publicly attacking Adidas for fuelling the "largest wildlife slaughter in the world" by using kangaroo skins to make football boots. "Adidas's use of kangaroo skin is inexcusably cruel," Animal Aid director Andrew Tyler told The Independent on Sunday newspaper.
"On the question of Stella McCartney's alleged silence, we know she opposes animal cruelty and presume she is taking the steps she feels appropriate to press the company to stop the use of kangaroo skins."
McCartney's father, Paul McCartney, has previously campaigned for Vegetarians International Voice for Animals (VIVA).
The group last month scored a major victory in the United States when the Californian Supreme Court banned the sale of football boots and other products made from kangaroo skins.

Neiman Marcus' take on the future
Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus is moving forward and looking up to the future as it will celebrate its 100 years of retail success this October. Instead of looking back, Neiman Marcus’ executives decided that it would be delightfully interesting to present an exhibition of looks and original sketches titled “Future Fashion” in which contributors will be asked to present their take on the question of where design will go next, be it in the near future or 600 years from now.
The exhibition will be part of a month-long launch starting in Dallas at the downtown flagship this October. And truly important designers will be helping Neiman and presenting their styles such as Vera Wang, Stefano Pilati for YSL, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, and Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci, who created a crocheted dress comprised of yards and yards of shimmering yarn.
I believe that the question asked is highly profound and hard to rapidly respond. The possible outcomes of this exhibition are many and diverse. I would love to be able to imagine how Stefeno Pilati’s work will look like, but unfortunately I can’t. I strongly think that in spite of being just a goofy garment lacking of real importance, Pilati’s design will certainly give a clue to those wondering how his future women’s wear lines will look like.

Stella McCartney for Adidas
Stella McCartney Dance Gear New Line Adidas (08/08)SHALL WE DANCE Jennifer Beals drew much more attention for what she didn't wear in Flashdance than what she did?and yet, her sexy studio look is creeping back onto the scene via a new collection by Stella McCartney for Adidas. Gym Dance, which hits stores this Friday, is comprised of leotards, leg warmers, wrap tops, and leggings that combine a vintage-inspired look with a modern athletic sensibility that will have you dancing like you've never danced before. The collection is full of contrasts?silk and cotton; chunky knits and sleek metallics?that are meant to be layered to fashion-forward effect. The collection is part of McCartney's ongoing collaboration with Adidas: Next up is a line of winter sports gear, which we're guessing will have her fans dropping the Hustle for the slopes in no time.

Fashion Scoops: Stella's New Project... Change In Spain... Remembering Versace...
STELLA'S NEW PROJECT:
Stella McCartney's brood is getting bigger. A source close to the designer said she is expecting her third child at the end of this year. McCartney already has a son, Miller Alasdhair James Willis, born in 2005, and a daughter, Bailey Linda Olwyn Willis, who was born in December. A spokesman for McCartney declined to comment. However, given McCartney's past form, the pregnancy isn't likely to slow her down — the designer was working on her fall 2005 collection hours before giving birth to her son, and was back to work the day after he was born.
