Neiman Marcus' take on the future

Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus is moving forward and looking up to the future as it will celebrate its 100 years of retail success this October. Instead of looking back, Neiman Marcus’ executives decided that it would be delightfully interesting to present an exhibition of looks and original sketches titled “Future Fashion” in which contributors will be asked to present their take on the question of where design will go next, be it in the near future or 600 years from now.

The exhibition will be part of a month-long launch starting in Dallas at the downtown flagship this October. And truly important designers will be helping Neiman and presenting their styles such as Vera Wang, Stefano Pilati for YSL, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, and Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci, who created a crocheted dress comprised of yards and yards of shimmering yarn.

I believe that the question asked is highly profound and hard to rapidly respond. The possible outcomes of this exhibition are many and diverse. I would love to be able to imagine how Stefeno Pilati’s work will look like, but unfortunately I can’t. I strongly think that in spite of being just a goofy garment lacking of real importance, Pilati’s design will certainly give a clue to those wondering how his future women’s wear lines will look like.
