Rock royalty in Palais Poyal

A new shop at Paris's Palais Royal

"I always like to keep little secret surprises and hide them in the changing rooms," said McCartney. This means galloping horses, a lifelong love of the designer, sculpted from layers of recycled cardboard, or the names of her kids carved into the paneling, which is reminiscent of the Shel Silverstein book "The Giving Tree." ---Stella McCartney.

Her design philosophy: "It's a personal ethical choice I make. I don't think fur and leather are very modern. How old school are they? Cavemen were knocking animals over the head and using their skins back in the day. In the fashion industry, we're supposed to be leading the way. We're not doing it in a funny, natural, hippy-dippy, tree-hugging way."

Adidas

'There’s no excuse for poor shapes and bad colours, they don’t make you run faster,” says Stella McCartney, who has proved something of a style sprint star in recent years with her ongoing association with sports giant Adidas. “Designing sportswear has confirmed my belief that you should never compromise, that you should keep pushing till you get the best results – almost like an athlete,” she adds.

Stella In Liverpool, June 1, 2008

Published: Wednesday, May 21, 2008 STELLA IN LIVERPOOL: Stella McCartney is going back to her roots. The designer will host a presentation of her fall collection in Liverpool, her father Sir Paul McCartney's hometown, at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts on June 1. The show — set to take place in the school's Paul McCartney auditorium — is part of a program that will celebrate Liverpool as the European capital of culture in 2008. And while Paul McCartney will be among the audience at his daughter's show in the afternoon (he's set to play a concert in the city later that evening) a clutch of yet-to-be-named British artists will perform live music sets alongside. PETA Person of the Year

Animals rights group honours Stella Fashion designer Stella McCartney has been named Person of the Year by animal rights charity People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta). The daughter of former Beatle Sir Paul refuses to use fur or leather in her collections. "Stella McCartney proves you can have a look that kills without killing," said Peta's US senior vice-president Dan Mathews. The 36-year-old was inspired to defend animal rights by her late mum, Linda. Her campaigning includes challenging British Airways to remove leather seats from their first-class cabins, saying: "I consider sitting on a poor cow's skin a throwback to earlier, harder times - not a luxury." She has also narrated a harrowing video exposing allegedly cruel practices in fur farms. In 2007 she launched an anti-fur campaign in online world Second Life. Last month she was named Designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards.
